You can see it all over social media. Amateur photographers on the streets in China capture candid footage of unidentified beautiful women and post these short clips to generate traffic. But when this video taken at Chengdu appeared on Douyin last week, the male companion of this tall, beautiful lady got himself into trouble.
Hu Jiyong 胡继勇 , the executive director and general manager of Huanqiu Engineering Project Management (Beijing) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation, was recognised by his colleagues. Besides that, Hu is also CCP Secretary of Party Committee. At the time the video was taken, he was in Chengdu on a business trip. After the video showing him frolicking on the streets of Chengdu with his mistress went viral, he was suspended pending an inquiry by the company.
Meanwhile, Netizen investigation revealed that the woman Mr Hu was openly holding hands with, is a 30-year-old female employee in the same company by the name of Dong Si Jin 董思槿 . Miss Dong graduated with a master’s degree from China University of Petroleum before working in CNPC, being initially assigned to the Beijing Project Management Branch of CNPC Engineering Co Ltd. In 2022, she was transferred to Hu Jin Yong’s department.
Miss Dong is also an influencer of sorts and often flaunts her purchases of luxury items, hotel stays and provocative poses on her social media accounts. She boasted that she had spent 2.4 million yuan to buy branded bags, skin care products and diamond rings. She even showed off her hotel bills, with some rooms costing 10,000 yuan a night.
It has also been found out that Dong Si Jin works out a lot and apart of flaunting her wealth, she also flaunted her figure. She had many sexy photos on Weibo which she deleted but only after netizens had shared them with all and sundry. Someone joking remarked that they finally have the answer to why the state-owned enterprise had been losing money. Another was worried that this kind of street photography could be banned.
There are a few points worthy of note here. First of all, anyone who knows China should be aware that such things are ridiculously commonplace. This is why the couple did not bother to hide. Under normal circumstances, the “news” would have been censored and neither Secretary Hu nor Miss Dong would need to hide or delete anything. But the leadership could have underestimated the young Chinese people’s current state of mind. Many graduates without connections are now unemployed, having to do food deliveries. Many don’t even have what it takes to get married. Here is Secretary Hu and his mistress, enjoying a lavish lifestyle while the state-owned company bleeds.
The authorities must have suddenly realised that this was an opportunity to appease the disgruntled masses. Why not just sacrifice Secretary Hu?
